Students must demonstrate superior academic ability, proven leadership qualities and financial need. Students must also be original and creative thinkers.

For 8 of the awards, preference will be given to students from rural and remote areas of Canada with demonstrated financial need.

For 1 of the awards, preference will be given to a student who is a resident of Quebec with demonstrated financial need.
