Education

Nipissing University

Professional

The Bachelor of Education (BEd) program is part of our Schulich School of Education and meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification (Certificate of Qualification). It is open to applicants who present proof of graduation with an approved undergraduate degree from an accredited university.

Applicants can apply to the following divisions:
  • - Primary/Junior (Kindergarten to Grade 6)
  • - Primary/Junior (Kindergarten to Grade 6) – French as a Second Language*
  • - Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4 to 10)
  • - Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 to 12)

*Students who graduate with the P/J FSL BEd degree will be qualified to teach French as a second language (i.e., core, extended and immersion) Grades K-12.

Nursing - Post RPN

Nipissing University

Professional

Nipissing University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program offer students a unique, flexible and collaborative education through its many partnerships, as well as 4 unique, educational pathways to obtain a professional nursing degree. As a BScN student, you will gain relevant nursing theory and professional knowledge provided by a university education, along with practical experience in diverse clinical settings.

Nipissing University offers currently employed Registered Practical Nurses the opportunity to complete the BScN degree through a blended delivery option. Admission consideration will be given to applicants who have successfully completed a 2-year RPN diploma (not certificate) from an Ontario college with a minimum GPA of 70%. The applicant must also be a current registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses in Ontario (CNO) as an RPN and be an employee (with a letter of support) of one of Nipissing’s partner health care agencies. This is a limited-enrollment program. The minimum GPA required for admission consideration may be higher than the stated minimum. There are 2 intakes per year (January and September).

Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Business Administration

This is a general management post-degree diploma program for students who have already graduated from a non-business degree program. The primary purpose of this diploma is to provide a 2-year learning experience for students wishing to build upon their current education with business courses.

Admission consideration will be given to applicants who have graduated from a non-business degree program from a recognized university. International applicants must have at least 6 credits of university English and/or Communications (at a recognized English language university in an English-speaking country) prior to admission or have met Nipissing University's English language proficiency requirements through the acceptable English language tests. The English/Communication courses and/or English language tests must have been completed within the 2 years prior to attending Nipissing University. Domestic applicants with international education may be required to meet the English/Communication requirement unless otherwise exempt under Nipissing’s English Language Proficiency policy.

Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Finance

This is a post-degree diploma program in Finance for students who have already graduated from a non-business degree program. The primary purpose of this diploma is to provide a 2-year learning experience for students wishing to build upon their current education with Finance and other related business courses.

Admission consideration will be given to applicants who will have graduated from a non-business degree program from a recognized university. International applicants must have at least 6 credits of university English and/or Communications (at a recognized English language university in an English-speaking country) prior to admission or have met Nipissing University's English language proficiency requirements through the acceptable English language tests. This is a post-degree diploma program in Human Resources Management for students who have already graduated from a non-business degree program. The primary purpose of this diploma is to provide a 2-year learning experience for students wishing to build upon their current education with Human Resources and other related business courses.

Admission consideration will be given to applicants who have graduated from a non-business degree program from a recognized university. International applicants must have at least 6 credits of university English and/or Communications (at a recognized English language university in an English-speaking country) prior to admission or have met Nipissing University's English language proficiency requirements through the acceptable English language tests. Post Baccalaureate Diploma in International Business

Certificate and Diploma Programs

This is a post-degree diploma program in International Business for students who have already graduated from a non-business degree program. The primary purpose of this diploma is to provide a 2-year learning experience for students wishing to build upon their current education with international/intercultural business courses. Students will have the option to complete an international special project/field-based consulting project during the program.

Admission consideration will be given to applicants who have graduated from a non-business degree program from a recognized university. International applicants must have at least 6 credits of university English and/or Communications (at a recognized English language university in an English-speaking country) prior to admission or have met Nipissing University's English language proficiency requirements through the acceptable English language tests. The English/Communication courses and/or English language tests must have been completed within the 2 years prior to attending Nipissing University. Domestic applicants with international education may be required to meet the English/Communication requirement unless otherwise exempt under Nipissing’s English Language Proficiency policy.

Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Marketing

This is a post-degree diploma program in Marketing for students who have already graduated from a non-business degree program. The primary purpose of this diploma is to provide a 2-year learning experience for students wishing to build upon their current education with Marketing and other related business courses.

Admission consideration will be given to applicants who have graduated from a non-business degree program from a recognized university. International applicants must have at least 6 credits of university English and/or Communications (at a recognized English language university in an English-speaking country) prior to admission or have met Nipissing University's English language proficiency requirements through the acceptable English language tests. The English/Communication courses and/or English language tests must have been completed within the 2 years prior to attending Nipissing University. Domestic applicants with international education may be required to meet the English/Communication requirement unless otherwise exempt under Nipissing’s English Language Proficiency policy.

Second Degree Nursing Scholar Practioner Program

Nipissing University

Professional

Nipissing University, in partnership with a health care institution consortium from Toronto, offers a 2-year nursing degree program to students who completed a university degree in another discipline. This program is offered in the health care institution consortium through a blended delivery model and is 6 semesters in length over 2 years.

Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Scholar Practitioner Program (SPP) is limited. Admission consideration is based on the following criteria:

  • - A recognized undergraduate degree with a minimum overall average of 75% (calculated on the best 10 full course equivalents, not including college transfer courses). Applicants with final degrees containing less than 10 full course equivalents will not be considered.
  • - Successful completion of 1 course in anatomy and 1 course in physiology (or 1 course that is a combination of anatomy and physiology).
  • - Casper assessment (Snapshot not required).

There is only 1 intake per year (September).

Social Work

Nipissing University

Undergraduate

Nipissing University offers a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program that prepares students for the practice of social work through the development of competencies in working to effect change in a variety of situations that affect individuals, families, groups, organizations or communities.

Students will develop a knowledge base related to the ways in which social, cultural and institutional contexts influence human behaviour and shape social work interventions and how social structures benefit and disadvantage various segments of society. In addition to fostering intervention skills related to individuals, groups, families, communities and policies, students will develop a critical awareness of the role of social work in the development, maintenance and resolution of social and personal troubles.

Applicants must apply for admission to the professional years (Years 3 and 4) of the program. The professional years are open to both Nipissing and non-Nipissing students.

Admission to the professional years of the Bachelor of Social Work is limited and based on both academic and non-academic criteria.

Admission consideration is determined on the following criteria:

Admission consideration will be given to applicants who have completed or will be in the position to complete 60 credits (10 full-course equivalents), including SWRK-1007 (or equivalent), SWRK-2006 (or equivalent), SWRK-2106 (or equivalent), SWLF-1006 (or equivalent), 6 credits (1 full course equivalent) in Humanities and 6 credits (1 full course equivalent) in Science by the end of April 2022. A minimum of 70% is required in each of SWRK-1007, SWRK-2006, SWRK-2106 and SWLF-1006. If admitted, a final transcript indicating that all courses have been completed and required grades/averages have been met must be received by June 30, 2023.
