Language Requirements

• If you are applying for an English-language program and you have not completed at least 3 years of full-time study in an institution where English is the only language of instruction, located in a country where English is an official language, you must submit your official score in one of the following University-approved language tests.
• If you are applying for a French-language program and you have not completed at least 3 years of full-time study in an institution where French is the only language of instruction, located in a country where French is an official language, you must submit your official score in one of the following University-approved language tests.
• Competency in English and French is compulsory for the Nutrition-Diététique program. If you apply to this program, you must pass a language proficiency test (with a minimum grade of at least 70%) prior to admission.
• If you apply to Second-Language Teaching, you must have an excellent knowledge of the language you intend to teach.

Basic Requirements for Admission

Some programs have a minimum required admission average of 75%; however, many programs require a greater admission average.

For programs in Science and in Engineering, a combined average of 70% is required in the prerequisite subjects. If you apply to Science but lack only 1 prerequisite credit in Mathematics, you may be considered for admission depending on your academic average. The missing course can be taken at the University either the summer before or during your first term of studies.

Failed and Repeated Courses

We use the highest grade. Therefore, if a course is failed and repeated, we take the higher of the 2 grades.

Timing and Process for Admission Decisions

We will issue conditional offers of admission in December 2023 for fall 2024 to highly qualified applicants, with exception for highly competitive programs such as Nursing, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data science and Computer Engineering. Offers for competitive programs will start in mid-February. We will continue to issue offers of admission to qualified applicants until the end of May. Please note that the requirements listed for these programs are minimum requirements only and are subject to change. Meeting the minimum average does not guarantee admission.

Early offers are based on the average of 3U/M grades or a combination of 3U/M and available 4U/M final grades. No early offers are extended for programs with additional requirements, such as language tests, portfolios, audition, etc.

All offers of admission are conditional. You must successfully complete a minimum of 6 eligible 4U/M courses, including prerequisite subjects of the requested program, obtain a specific admission average and present proof of your Ontario Secondary School Diploma or the equivalent before September. 

Details regarding offers of residence and scholarships will be sent with the offer of admission. You must respond before the date indicated in your offer of admission.
